ヽ(≧◡≦) LAN party (o^ ^o)ノ
[ EST 9/23 ]
| time: | saturdays @ 6:00 PM EST |
| channel: | WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1 |
| genres: | rhythm games, doujin, touhou, vocaloid, j-core, specialty |
| programming block: | specialty |
the whole reason i even started djing was so i could play my terrible japanese music on air. is it actually terrible? nope, i love it to death!!! everything from classic rhythm game music from legends like camellia, nekomata master and more, to the new classics mapped in games like osu!, sound voltex, wacca, and so on. i also use this block as an excuse to play stuff that i love that just so happens to be mapped in osu, even if it isn't traditionally considered "rhythm game music". i've done a death metal set on this show before!
into the night
[ EST 1/24 ]
| time: | saturdays @ 4:00 PM EST |
| channel: | WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1 |
| genres: | early 2000s emo, post-hardcore, screamo, emo pop, 2nd wave + midwest emo |
| programming block: | daytime rock |
a mix of classic early 2000s post-hardcore/emo ("myspace"/"warped tour"/etc), obscure screamo, tiny emo pop bands, and more!! this show isn't as long running as lan party is, but my love for this stuff is true all the same. i got into this genre through my boyfriend almost five years ago, and exploring further and finding the tiniest bands most people forgot about (other than the high schoolers who went to their shows in 2005) is one of my favorite things to do. some of my favorites are the fall of troy, saosin, the cambiata, us from outside, and i am disaster-- though this list is ever-changing and always expanding!

baby's first radio show!!!! this was the hd-1 (main radio) version of my hd-2 (webstream only) show that i started right after i finished my dj training. i took the show name from a camellia song on an album he had just released (ashen wings) and thought i was soooo clever. then i realized it kind of sounded like i just had an electronic show, which didn't really communicate my intentions accurately; this show (and its successor) are both specialty shows so i could have the flexibility to maybe play a j-pop set if i really felt like it.
i eventually retired this show, but continued running basically the same program, just under its new permanent name :)

| channel: | WKNC HD-1 |
| genres: | jazz fusion, math rock, japanese jazz, acid jazz |
| programming block: | specialty* |

this show was rather short-lived under this name, lasting only two months before i changed it. i ran this one before wknc had a dedicated jazz programming block (now called "sunset"), so if you wanted to run a jazz show, you'd do it under specialty. my genre scope here got a liiiiittle wide at times; i would play math rock one week and then turn around and play insane acid jazz the next. this was mostly because i was going through a big math rock thing at the time and kind of felt like i could justify shoehorning the genre into a jazz show which was ill-advised with retrospect.

another show with a horrifically short runtime... this was not the best time in my personal life to be trying to run a bunch of radio shows! this was the successor to "technicalities" and followed basically the same model. eventually, this show ended so i could start "into the night" which was explicitly focused on emo and also allowed me to play the much harder and definitely not jazzy stuff that i liked. this was not the end of my jazz career at wknc, but it did take a backseat for a few years!

| genres: | 70s soul + gospel, funk, jazz instrumental |
| programming block: | sunset |

my most recent stint running a jazz show, this one focused much more heavily on the slow, classic soul sound typically associated with the 60s and 70s, with occasional genre detours to yacht rock, funk, and acid jazz. my former co-host's spinitron profile is linked above for appropriate credit :)
